Wisdom of Athena 1000

Wisdom of Athena 1000 Review

Pragmatic Play's Wisdom of Athena 1000 is a beefed-up version that may well send the original, Wisdom of Athena, into early retirement. This slot, part of Pragmatic's ambitious 1000 series, doesn't just boost the potential winnings, it gives the game a fresh coat of paint, enhancing its visual appeal. The most striking change is Athena herself. No longer simply a beautiful goddess, she now stands beside the grid clad in full battle armor, a testament to her warrior spirit.

Athena's golden shield, her helmet, a vase, and a scroll remain as the premium icons, their values ranging from 10x to 50x for 15+ anywhere, like before. Scatter Pay wins are coupled with the Tumble wins mechanic once again, and you will accumulate multiplier symbols of up to x1,000 during tumble sequences this time. Consecutive tumbles unlock extra positions above each reel like in the original game, increasing the grid's size and your winning potential.

In the bonus round, the multiplier symbols don't just add to your current win, they build an ever-increasing win multiplier that persists throughout the free spins. The unlocked top positions also remain in play, ensuring each free spin is packed with potential. The enhanced math model of Wisdom of Athena 1000 raises the stakes to epic proportions, offering the chance to seize wins of up to 10,000x your stake. Essentially, Pragmatic Play has fortified an already solid release, and we're confident fans will appreciate the enhanced experience.

Wisdom of Athena 1000 Features

You get a set of familiar features in Wisdom of Athena 1000 slot, with additive multiplier symbols boosting your cascading tumble win sequences and unlocking top-row positions. Both the activated positions and the multiplier are persistent in the bonus round, and we’ll reveal all bonus features in more detail below.

Ante Bet (not UK)

If eligible, you can choose to turn on the Ante Bet feature between any base game spin. This means you’ll pay 25 % extra per spin to double your bonus round chances. The below-average bonus round hit frequency of 1 in 433.7 spins is then increased to a far more decent 1 in 216.85 spins.

Tumble Wins Grid Expansion

The Tumble mechanic removes all winning symbols from the grid, replacing the empty positions with new and existing symbols cascading down. This process repeats indefinitely as long as you keep winning. Landing enough consecutive tumble wins unlock positions on the locked top row, and these are activated one by one from left to right. You need 1, 4, 10, 19, 31, and 46 consecutive tumbles to unlock 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 positions on the top row, respectively.

Multiplier Symbols

You can land Multiplier symbols with values ranging from x2 to x1,000 in all stages of the game. All multiplier symbol values are accumulated in the same cascading sequence, boosting your total win in the end.

Wisdom of Athena 1000 Free Spins

You trigger the Bonus Round when 4, 5, or 6 scatters land in the same cascading sequence, and this awards 10 free spins plus 2x, 15x, or 100x your stake, respectively. You start with all positions on the top row locked, but unlocked positions remain active until the end of the bonus round. Multiplier symbols build the persistent and non-resetting win multiplier which boosts all wins, and you win +5 extra free spins from landing 3+ scatters in view.

Pros and Cons of Wisdom of Athena 1000

Our Verdict

Wisdom of Athena 1000 comes as no surprise to those familiar with Pragmatic Play’s 1000 series. It all began with Gates Of Olympus, which was later reimagined as the enhanced Gates of Olympus 1000. With this "pragmatic" approach, Pragmatic Play essentially doubles down on each successful release. First, they introduce a solid original game, and then, not long after, they follow up with a beefed-up 1000 version. This strategy is a win-win, allowing them to gauge a game's popularity before investing in an enhanced version with improved math models and even upgraded visuals.

There's no question that Wisdom of Athena 1000 is superior to its predecessor, even with a slightly decreased max win hit rate. The bonus round hit rate remains unchanged, which is a bit low at 1 in 433 spins without the Ante Bet. However, the reasonably priced Ante Bet at 25 % extra seems like a good deal. The top-row unlocking mechanism, expanding the grid, is a key reason to choose Wisdom of Athena 1000 over Gates of Olympus 1000. However, the latter, with its higher potential and far superior win cap hit rate is still this reviewer's go-to game in the 1000 series.

Nevertheless, Wisdom of Athena 1000 is a solid alternative, especially for fans of the original, which has already amassed a following since its mid-2023 release. This 1000 version gives us something new to embrace, and overall, it's a great addition to Pragmatic Play's ever-expanding 1000 series. The only concern we have with this 1000 approach is that some players may feel fatigued or even exploited by the constant stream of remakes, particularly if they've already invested time and money into the original games. However, you can always simply wait for the 1000 version, although there is no guarantee it will ever come.
