Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck Review
Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck sees Playtech returning to the saturated meadows of the Emerald Isle, and, of course, you have a smiling Leprechaun by your side all the way as you spin the reels. The pot of gold may not be at the end of the rainbow in this game, but to compensate, you get 3 of them perched above the reels. The quintessential Irish visuals are accompanied by a cheerful Celtic tune, making this ‘pot collection’ installment pleasing to both eyes and ears.
You start by choosing your preferred bet level, which ranges from €0.2 to €500 per spin in the Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck slot. Next, you can choose to play manually or use the autospin feature, which allows you to spin until the bonus round triggers or a fixed number of spins. The turbo spin option is also found within the autoplay menu, increasing the pace of the game. Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck plays out on a 5x3 grid with 30 paylines, and you win by landing at least 3 matching symbols across a payline starting from the leftmost reel.
The Leprechaun is the highest value symbol, followed by a redhead maiden, a green hat, a frothy pint, and a pipe. These premium symbols pay 2.5x to 6x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, while the royal symbols pay 1.25x to 2x your stake for the same. The four-leaf clover Wild symbol substitutes for any pay symbol to help complete or improve line wins. Other than that, you will land 3 different-colored coins that are collected in the corresponding pots above the reels.

The collection of these colored coins randomly triggers the Gold Trio Respins bonus round, which is a hold and win feature where each triggering coin unlocks a feature coin during the bonus. These feature coins can expand the grid, boost prize coins by x2, and collect all present prize coin values. You can unlock feature coins during the bonus too and land jackpot coins worth up to 50x your stake. Fill the grid to win the 1,000x grand jackpot. Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck is a high volatility slot game with an RTP of 93.92% and a max win of 1,380x your stake.
Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck Features
We have given you an overview above, and now the time has come to present the features in more detail. However, before we go into all that, we would like to remind you that the Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck free play demo is available at the top of this page. Check it after finishing the review. Let’s get started!
Leprechaun Feature
The Leprechaun feature can randomly trigger on any base game spin. It can add a Wild symbol to the reels or colored coins that may trigger the Trio Respins bonus round. During the Trio Respins bonus round, the Leprechaun may randomly upgrade cash prize coins to higher values, a mystery prize coin, or an active colored coin.
Gold Trio Respins Bonus Round
The Gold Trio Respins Bonus Round may trigger whenever you land 1, 2, or all 3 colored coin symbols in view on the same spin, and these are collected by the corresponding pots above the reels. You start with 5 coins sticky on the new bonus grid and 3 respins. Only blanks, colored coins, prize coins, or jackpot coins may land during the feature, and the respins counter resets to 3 each time you land at least one non-blank symbol.
Colored coins that land during the feature are collected in their corresponding pot above the reels, and this may unlock the corresponding feature. The cash prize coins appear with values ranging from 0.25x to 5x your stake, and the Mini, Minor, and Major jackpot coins are worth 10x, 20x, or 50x your stake, respectively. The feature ends when you run out of respins or if you fill the grid with coin symbols. The latter awards the 1,000x Grand Jackpot. Here’s an overview of the 3 colored coin features:
- Red Coin - boost all cash coin prizes by x2 once after it lands.
- Green Coin - collects all cash prize values in view onto itself.
- Blue Coin - expands the grid by adding an extra row.
Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck Bonus Buy (not UK)
Eligible players can purchase the Gold Trio bonus round via the Buy Feature button to the left of the grid. The price is 50x your stake, and this triggers a screen where 1 to 3 of the feature pots are filled with gold coins. All pots that are filled activate their feature from the start of the bonus round, but keep in mind that you still need to land colored coins to trigger the active features.

Theme & Graphics
Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck whisks you away to the rolling green hills of the Emerald Isle, where a massive, vivid rainbow arcs above the gold-trimmed grid. The jackpots are stacked up on the left, while the 3 pots of gold are perched atop the reels, gradually being filled with gold coins as colored coins are collected. On the reels, Celtic-knotted coins in blue, red, and green act as harbingers for the bonus round, while pipes, frothy stouts, and green top hats complete the Irish visual. The sharply dressed Leprechaun is with you all the way, waving his magic wand in ways that benefit you when you least expect it.

Our Verdict
Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck is another excursion into the well-trodden hills of the Emerald Isle, and the game offers all the usual ingredients. You’ve got your cheerful, red-bearded Leprechaun, pots of gold, frothy pints, and even a fair, redheaded maiden. The rainbow and the lush rolling hills complete the idyllic picture, together with the folksy Celtic soundtrack. It all comes together rather charmingly, as long as you can overlook the obvious cliché of this presentation.
There is only so much you can do with the Irish Luck theme, after all, unless you’re willing to get experimental. The retro design suits this theme quite well, and it’s also fun to see the Leprechaun spring to life at random times to help you out in different ways. The pace of the game is decent with the turbo switched on, and the constant collection of colored coins luckily does not slow you down. I still found myself double-clicking to stop the reels short, though, which is a good option to have.
The base game gets a bit too repetitive after a while, since there are few features to break up the grind. Sure, you get occasional wilds or colored coins added by the green-clad Leprechaun, but other than that, you’re basically churning along until the bonus round hits. I do like how the pots get gradually filled with more and more gold coins, though. It serves as a nice visual motivator to keep going. However, I’m not really a huge fan of this whole bonus round concept.
The upside is that each bonus round feels more unique, but I still can’t help but feel that I’m missing out unless I get all 3 colored coin features activated from the get-go. It’s a plus that you can activate them during the feature, but it’s still rare to see all 3 active. Also, expanding the grid is not really an advantage when the goal is to fill the grid with coins to secure the 1,000x grand jackpot prize. However, in the end, the 93.92% RTP and mediocre max win hardly make Gold Trio: Leprechaun's Luck worthwhile unless you are a diehard fan of the pot collection concept.
