Dream Diver

Dream Diver Review

Terry Gilliam was the man behind the absurd Monty Python clip-art animations, and if you mix in a dash of the bright, psychedelic color scheme from Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, you’re getting pretty close to the unique visual presentation on display in ELK’s Dream Diver. It might not be immediately obvious in the base game (although there are a few hints on the wall), but you’ll see what we mean when you trigger the 6-tier Pick Me Bonus Game.

The nocturnal base game comes with Starburst-inspired Sticky Stacked Wild Respins, and the old hippie himself is already catching Z’s on the left-hand side. The goal is to keep him dreaming all the way to the tier-6 Dream Wheel, and avoid any and all alarm clocks before that. The math model will hardly appeal to ‘serious’ gamblers, but casual punters looking for a dreamy afternoon might enjoy this with a hot cup of tea before bedtime.

Dream Diver slot Features

The happy looking blue cat figures on the regular 1x1 wild symbol, and the wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combinations. Fully stacked wilds can also appear on reels 2 to 4, and this triggers the Stacked Wild Respin feature. The stacked wilds always nudge in place when they land, and the remaining reels respin. If you land a new wild on the respin, the process repeats.

The Pick Me bonus game is triggered by landing 3 Dream Diver bonus symbols on the 3 middle reels. You’ll pick one of the triggering symbols, and these reveal either an instant cash prize, or the Pick Me feature.

There are 6 levels to this bonus game. The first 5 tiers are Pick’em features with unique and trippy backdrops, as well as an increasing multiplier per level. The 6th level is an Alarm Clock Double Multiplier Wheel. All 5 pick’em levels award cash prizes, multiplier upgrades, extra lives, or a pesky alarm clock that ends the feature. If you have an extra life in the form of a heart, the feature continues even if you pick the alarm clock.

If you reveal a ‘Next’ sign, you’re taken to the next level. When the alarm clock ends the feature, your total prize is multiplied by the multiplier relevant to your level. If you make it all the way to the Dream Wheel however, a giant alarm clock spins to award 2 more multipliers. These are added to the multiplier you’ve accrued along the way, and this can significantly boost your payout.

Non-UK players can take advantage of ELK’s innovative X-iter bonus/feature buy menu. It comes with 5 options this time, but keep in mind that the RTP is still 95 % for all options:

• X-iter 1 – guarantees a win for the price of 5x your stake.
• X-iter 2 – guarantees 3 spins with a Stacked Wild Respins trigger for 25x your stake.
• X-iter 3 – triggers the Pick Me bonus game for 100x your stake.
• X-iter 4 – Pay 200x your stake for the same as a x-iter 3, but with a larger starting prize.
• X-citer 5 – for 500x your stake you trigger a Pick Me Bonus Game that’s guaranteed to take you all the way to the tier-6 Dream Wheel.

The 200 Spins Dream Diver slot Experience

Nothing too exciting happened for us in the base game, so we soon decided to head for the x-iter menu to purchase the bonus round. Of course, we went for the top tier option, and it triggers at 0:46 into the 3-and-a-half minute highlights video. You can see our journey to the Dream Wheel for yourself below. Review Summary

This is one of those games where it really pays to try the demo version first. The downside is that you might get hooked on the guaranteed Dream Wheel bonus buy feature, and playing the regular game after that can be a snoozefest in comparison. ELK has managed to conjure up some impressive Monty Python-inspired visual animations, and it almost looks like Terry Gilliam himself has been hired as a consultant.

Getting to the Dream Wheel is far from easy without paying for it, and it’s also very possible to build up a massive multiplier without having much of a cash prize it can be applied to. The dreamy and surreal atmosphere absorbs all the attention at first, but once the novelty wears off, you’re basically stuck with Pick'em features and a mediocre 2,500x potential. It’s a good option if you simply want to dream yourself away for a while, and don’t care too much about the math model.

If you appreciate Dream Diver slot you should also try:

Frutz - is one to try if you enjoy visually unusual games, and this Hacksaw title comes with 3 mystery multiplier symbols that can add to the global multiplier. When the multiplier doesn't reset in the bonus round, you can win up to 10,000x your stake.

Forest Fortune - is another Hacksaw title that stands out both visually and featurewise. It comes with a wind that keeps changing direction, and this determines which way the wild clones itself. You can win up to 10,000x your stake, or a €3m jackpot, in the streak respins bonus round.

Hippie Days - is definitely one to try for fans of the psychedelic era of the 60s and 70s. Blasing cluster wins fills up multiplier bars, and you can look forward to both a rainbow and a harmony bonus round. A 3-tier flower wheel can dish out multipliers up to 200x.
